I am Cristian Menumortu and I create mixed media art - mainly collages.

My artworks illustrate how absurd & amusing, heavy & light, chaotic & endearing it is to be human.

Through collaging, I mourn our disconnection from inner & outside nature, while celebrating how surreal, complex and colorful life can be.

In 2015, I created my first collages with Soviet-era and
fashion magazines discovered at second-hand markets in Chișinău, Moldova. These materials travelled with me to Bucharest, Groningen, and currently Zurich.
Marking 10 years of collaging, I embraced my calling and
am dedicating myself to being a visual artist.

I enjoy repurposing analog materials, like old books destined to be discarded.
Being strongly connected to nature, I am integrating natural elements like wood, leaves, flowers & mushroom spores.

By welcoming serendipity, I create intuitively - flipping through immense stack of papers & photos with curiosity and playfulness.

In my artistic practice, there`s space for
my childhood on a farm, my studies in psychology, my work in sustainability, and my immense joy of being in the forest.

My work invites rethinking overconsumption, modern work & over-individualization, and encourages self-reflection and mindfulness.
